Well a lot has happened in regards to my in-depth project over the past 4 weeks. To get us started I have had evaluations all over spring break. These were a lot of fun and made me learn a lot. I also got to learn a bit more about the coaches and introduce myself to the girls that I’ll be playing with. I have also discovered my strength and weaknesses in how I play. For example as per most of the sports I play, I am way better at defense then offense. It is weird but defense always seems to click in my brain easier. So I didn’t get to meet with my mentor a lot over the break since he went away, but he was at the first couple of assessments and he talked to me afterwards and gave me some helpful tips on what I need to work on. Since he has gotten back on his vacation we have met up for a meeting once. This meeting we went over basic offence because I struggle to grasp this concept the most. I definitely feel more confident with my offense skills but I am still nervous about are first game which is next Friday. Now to switch over to the questions. While I was reading this weeks criteria thing, I really like the four stages of mentorship. The more I think about it the more I realize how many of these things I have already covered.
1. What has been my most difficult mentoring challenge so far? Why?
The most difficult mentoring challenge that I have faced with my mentor have mostly centered around the both of us being really tired when we get to the meeting. We both have fairly busy schedule and that is making , at least me, really exhausted.
2. What is working well? Why?
The thing that is working really well with my mentor has been the communication. I have gotten a bit more comfortable and I don’t act nervous anymore. We also talk about a lot of sports not just lacrosse and of course that lowers down my shields.
3. What could be working better? How can you make sure this happens?
What could be working better is something I can control by myself. I want to learn about what all these lacrosse terms mean because I have been a little lost during practice when the coach is explaining a drill and is using lacrosse terms that I do not understand. This also goes for mentor meetings, I have realized hw clueless about this sport. I just need to study or remember fast all these different terms that could help me with understanding this sport a little more.
